Pay-Per-Click Advertising – Which Search Engines Will Get Me Most Hits?

If you are going to be successful with your web site, you need to rank high on search engines. Each search engine has their own Pay-Per-Click advertising opportunities, and the prices vary. So how do you know which ones are worth it?

ComScore Networks is a market analysis company who track all kinds of data about Internet usage. They recently sent out a press release about search engine market shares, and how it has changed since 2005.

The following table shows each of the major search engines and their percentage of the Internet search market share.

There were 6.5 billion searches in August 2006 which is up 28% from August 2005. What does this mean? Well, buyers are using Internet searches more often, so you need to get your eBay Store and/or website optimized to show up.

Google is the only search engine that has increased market share in the last year. But Yahoo is still a good competitor. They may not have nearly the marketshare Google has, but 28% is still a high percentage. You also need to consider the toolbar searches. Combined, the Google and Yahoo toolbar searches account for over 95% of total toolbar searches. Google is only slightly ahead with 49.6% to Yahoo’s 47.3%.

So, my advice – make sure your site is promoted on both Yahoo and Google.
