eBay Gets a Face-Lift

ebay is changing the header of their page for the first time in 11 years
Everyone is familiar with the current header on eBay, the navigation tabs in the center, the search boxes to the top right and bottom left, etc. Well, it’s all about to change.
Yesterday, eBay announced a redesign of this header to make the search box bigger and more prominent. Honestly, I like the design. The navigation tabs are now on the top right and eBay has done away with that second, redundant search box.  The navigation tabs (Buy, Sell, My eBay, Community, and Help) are actually drop-down menus now. When you hover your mouse over each of them, the most common links within each section will drop-down (so, discussion boards, feedback forum, announcements, etc. for Community)
The advanced search link is more prominent and right next to the search box (as it should be). There are also two new buttons for eBay Motors and eBay Express right underneath the search box. To the left of those is a drop-down menu for the categories (like you see on eBay Express). This seems a little redundant since all of the category links still display just a fraction below that on the left sidebar. Maybe this is a prelude to a full page redesign?
There is a “You’ve been outbid” label at the top which I will be very interested to see how works once this launches.

I must confess, eBay Express does look far more sleek and I think part of that is not having all of the category links on the left sidebar.

According to eBay, this new header will appear in a couple of days (just in time for Bill Cobb’s monthly Town Hall meeting), so keep an eye out for it.
I’m glad that eBay has listened to the thousands of sellers who asked for a more prominant search box. I think they’ve really come through with it this time.
