eBay is having another listing fee sale. Why don’t they just go ahead and lower listing fees?
It is no secret that eBay has been experiencing slower listing growth and the fee sales are in response to this. When eBay announced it’s fee sale today, eBay stock dropped just over 6%. The fee sales always seem to work, which is why I wonder why eBay doesn’t just lower the listing fees to increase overall listings and bring some of the marginal sellers back to the site. They have done this in the UK with some success, so I hope this January when eBay usually announces their new fee might bring a pleasant surprise.
eBay’s latest promotion starts at midnight Pacific Time today, October 18, 2007 and lasts until Monday, November 5, 2007.
What are the new fees?
For any auction-style or fixed price listing, the insertion fee is discounted by 33%. This offer applies to Auction-style and Fixed Price listings on the U.S. www.eBay.com and Motors www.eBayMotors.com (including Parts & Accessories, Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, Powersports, Other Vehicles) sites This includes listings created prior to the promotion and scheduled to start during the promotional period October 18 – November 5, 2007.
eBay motors listing fees dropped from $40 to $25 in most categories. You can see the complete fee schedule here.

Tim’s seminars fill up fast because unlike a lot of seminars where the speakers just spend all day trying to sell you other stuff, Tim has a reputation for delivering the goods. When i spoke to Tim yesterday he only had a dozen or so seats left.

eBay to Change Buy-it-now durations.
eBay has been experimenting with extending the time that Buy-it-now prices are available in auction style listings. So far the test has been only in the eBay motors and tickets categories. Starting this week, eBay will expand them to the Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, and Cell Phones & PDAs. In addition, eBay will start testing in the same categories on eBay Canada, and site-wide in several international sites including the UK and Australia.
Latest Cell Phone/eMail scam
This is not new, but it disappeared for a while and has come back. You will get an email telling you that you can avoid telemarketers calling your cell phone if you click on a link and enter your cell phone number on the US Government’s Do Not Call Database. The problem is that you are not really on the US government’s site. It is a clone site and is designed to get your cell number so you can be telemarketed.
